Volume one (1) “Hope” is focused on fighting the addiction. In it we look at the normal ways that parents found out about and responded to the addiction. Trying to get our loved ones into treatment; how to best support our loved ones in treatment; ways that parents try to cope; how parents struggle to set limits; the search for answers including the various models of addiction. Along the way we will discover many many reasons for hope. Scientific, well documented, but seldom shared facts that give solid reason for hope, such as the long term recovery rates.
Did you know that the National Institute of Health, has a section called the National Institute on Drug Abuse? According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse the long term recovery rate for addiction is better than the long term recovery rate for asthma, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and many other serious diseases! This is great news that should give us hope because people recover from or learn to manage those diseases all the time! They go on to lead happy successful lives, all the time. Since the recovery rate for addiction is BETTER than it is for those diseases, that gives us a scientific, fact-based, researched and documented, reason for hope. Throughout this volume “Hope” we will discover many more reasons for “Hope”.
